Today was braces day! All is well...we are stocked up on soup, pudding, popsicles, and ice cream for the next couple of days.
Jackson has an appointment next week to have 4 teeth pulled. He is NOT looking forward to that! After that, its all down hill though!
Mason will be in his braces for 12 to 18 months. Jackson has to wear his for 2 to 2.5 years.

Mason: Mom, even though my transformation from kid to teenager completed a couple of days ago...I still think you and dad are cool.
Mason: You will hear me say things like "thats so lame" now.

Yesterday, I started feeling more like a teenager....

We are home today, with the windows open to let in some fresh air, while the boys are working on school.
We hear sirens.
Jackson: Do you think someone tried to fry a turkey?
Me: Always a possilibity, I guess.
Mason: Whatever
Jackson: Mason, Dad told me people can burn down their house trying to fry a turkey.
Mason: Yesterday, I started to feel more like a teenager so if you say stuff like that, Im just going to say, "Whatever!"
Glad he gave us some warning!!!

Ano Nuevo

Today we took a trip to see the elephant seals. They head to Ano Nuevo State Park to rest, have their babies, and mate during this part of the year.

After a short hike, we arrived at the part of the beach where the seals are. It was SO NEAT to be that close to these huge animals!

The female elephant seals arrive pregnant and give birth here. We were able to see several babies that were just born within the last 24 hours. There were nursing and cuddling with their mamas!

The males bicker among each other and the biggest, loudest, strongest males surround themselves with up to 50 females and they will be part of his harem. After the females give birth and nurse for a short time, they will mate again and leave the beach pregnant again! After fasting and nursing the females will be very skinny without enough nourishment to support a new baby. We learned the baby just floats in a state of waiting for several months while the mother packs on the pounds again. Once the mother has enough fat to support a fetus...only then will it implant itself into the uterus! The baby will then begin to grow for 8 to 9 months before the mom returns to Ano Nuevo to give birth and start the process all over again.
This is a picture of a mature male. They are the only ones to have the elephant trunk looking nose.

We had a great time!
On the way home we stopped at Bean Hallow State Beach to watch the sunset. Definitely take the time to look through all of the pictures by clicking HERE!
